We’re gearing up for Sea Otter Australia and would like to take this opportunity to share a few of the many great events you can participate in. At Sea Otter, we take a more relaxed approach to competition racing and riding regulations, so no UCI’s at Sea Otter! That way we can be a more open and inclusive participatory event.
To us, it’s all about Sea Otter Australia being safe, fun and fair in how we present and time our many events. Go as hard as you want or simply enjoy your ride, the line up of attending professional riders will certainly be taking the Mount and surrounding roads full on!
Whether you’re ready to hit the trails or enjoy some of the region’s scenic gravel roads, we have something for you.
Sea Otter Australia Mountain Bike Events
If you like knobby tires, you’re sure to find an event to get stoked on. Our mountain bike events run the gamut from high-speed cross-country racing, to a four-stage enduro, to dual slalom and a DH Air race that follows portions of Mt Stromlo’s gnarly World Cup track.
To spice things up, we’ve added a couple unique events including an uphill time trial that will have you seeing red and the Shingleback Pump Track Attack that will decide who is the king and queen of the pump track.
Sea Otter Australia Gravel Events
Gravel riding has taken the world by storm. It’s a great way to enjoy the roads less traveled and enjoy some of Canberra’s stunning scenery. For the gravel grinders among us, we have two events that are sure to please.
Bell Curve Gravel Ride
Our Bell Curve gravel ride is called that because the route profile perfectly sums this ride. You’ll work hard during the first half of this 70km ride and be rewarded with a gradual descent in the second half so you can take in the scenery.
“This ride features some of the most iconic gravel riding in Canberra,” said route planner Christo Norman. The course winds through the pristine forests of Brindabella National Park, traverses the Cotter River, before sweeping up to the high country, and descending back to Cotter.
If you’re new to gravel riding or are looking for a shorter event, we offer the CBR-G ride. The majority of this 55km or 43km gravel jaunt is on rolling fire roads with scenic forest views.
This is a great route for riders to take in the landscapes and catch up with friends.
We have a wonderfully challenging cyclocross course at the southern zone of the Mount Stromlo site, with some 2.1km of pure CX joy and pain! We are proud to partner with the local CX aficionado crew that will treat you to the best that cyclocross has to offer at Stromlo Forest Park. This will be as challenging for riders as it will be entertaining for spectators.
